BT has opened a new office and a new Security Operations Center (SOC) in Sydney. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Hon Victor Dominello MP, Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government, Minister for Small Business and Minister for Fair Trading of the New South Wales Government. Joining the Minister was Rodney Kinchington, BT’s Regional Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Japan, China, Middle East and Africa (APJC & MEA), plus senior BT managers from around the region.
BT opened its first direct sales operations in the region more than 30 years ago and today employs around 200 in offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. It provides networking, cloud and security services to global multinational companies and public sector organisations.
The Sydney office is also home to one of the 15 Security Operations Centers, protecting BT’s own network as well as networks and operations of its customers. With more than 3,000 security experts, BT has one of the largest security practices in the industry.
Kinchington said, “Our new office in Sydney is part of BT’s global initiative to design the best working experience for its colleagues, customers and partners. Our rich heritage in providing network, cloud, security, collaboration and contact center solutions around the globe means we have unparalleled insight, skills, scale and speed to help our customers in Australia succeed in this rapidly changing environment.”
Dominello added, “It’s great that BT has chosen Sydney for its state-of-the-art Security Operations Center. Cybersecurity must be a key pillar for every company to help them safeguard not only their own business interests but also the privacy and security of their customer’s personal data as well.”
The Sydney SOC is one of 16 SOCs globally. Together they are the world’s top contributor to the MITRE ATT&CK framework and manage security operations for 30 nation states. Information gathered from this SOC network also provides threat intelligence to NATO, Europol, Interpol, US DoD and the UK National Cyber Center.
