Brite Payments’ Open Banking Solution Removes Sign-up Roadblock For Charities And Nonprofits

With charities and nonprofits facing increased pressure to improve donor engagement while managing limited resources, payment provider, Brite Payments, is positioning its instant payments and data tools as a way to reduce administrative load, increase transparency, and free staff to focus on service delivery.

The company’s platform uses open banking and Account Information Services to automate parts of the donation workflow. Nordic groups such as The Swedish Heart Lung Foundation, Suicide Zero and The Swedish Sea Rescue Society have adopted the service, along with nonprofit operators like Repejo and fundraising platform Octany.

Octany Co-founder and CEO, Elise Hammarström, said manual data entry had been a barrier for donors. “Prior to implementing Data Solutions, donors had to manually enter bank account details, which most people don’t know by heart. This can be the difference between receiving a donation or not at all,” Hammarström said. “By using Brite, we solved our challenges by being able to automatically retrieve the donor’s bank account information to set up direct debit. From this, we’ve already seen the success rate for direct debit signups improve by 24 per cent in the first month.”

Automating Validation And Reducing Friction

Open banking enables data sharing through a user’s existing bank authentication. This gives the provider an automated and secure method for instant account verification and donor validation. Organisations using the platform can track transactions more accurately during peak fundraising periods, integrate payment data into existing systems, and maintain transparent data flows under user consent requirements.

The Swedish Sea Rescue Society has used the platform to cut back-office work and reduce drop-off during payment steps. Customer Relationship Analyst Gunnar Lindgren said supporters have found the updated flow easier to navigate. “It’s easier than ever for supporters to donate,” Lindgren said. “We’ve significantly reduced administrative burden and friction in the donation process. This confidence allows us to focus more on attracting and retaining frequent supporters.”

Converting One-Off Gifts Into Recurring Support

Instant payments and integrated data insights are enabling charities to turn one-time gifts into recurring contributions with fewer manual interventions. The provider argues that this helps organisations maintain steady revenue and build stronger long-term donor relationships.

VP Product, George Parks Davie, said the company is focusing on tools that reduce financial complexity for the sector. “Brite is committed to equipping charities, nonprofits, and businesses across all verticals with powerful tools to simplify financial processes and enhance transparency,” he said. “This allows them to focus more time on their missions and amplify their message, all the while building vital donor trust.”
