Surprisingly Useful AI Article Enhancements
Application security company, Black Duck, has made its Signal code analysis tool available as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server in the Claude Directory, embedding vulnerability detection directly into AI-assisted development workflows within Claude Desktop.
The integration allows developers using Anthropic’s Claude coding assistant to scan git changes, individual files or entire projects for security vulnerabilities without leaving the Claude environment.
Bridging the gap between speed and security
The move addresses a growing tension in software development. As AI coding assistants accelerate the pace at which developers write and ship code, security teams face increasing pressure to maintain oversight without creating bottlenecks.
Signal is designed to sit at the point of code generation and review, operating inside the same Claude Desktop environment that developers already use to write, refactor and reason about code.
Chief Product and Technology Officer at Black Duck, Dipto Chakravarty, commented: “Developers are moving faster than ever with Claude, but that speed can’t come at the expense of security. Bringing Signal into the Claude Directory means Claude users get blended, AI-powered vulnerability detection built directly into the workflow they’re already in, so security keeps pace with how fast teams are building.”
How Signal works within Claude
Signal Code Analysis functions as an AI-powered security analysis engine that provides contextual vulnerability detection within development workflows.
Through the MCP integration, Signal connects directly to Claude Desktop. When a developer initiates a scan, source content is transmitted to Black Duck’s remote analysis endpoint for processing.
Once a scan is complete, results are returned as MCP resources. This gives Claude structured context that it can use to reason about findings, explain the associated risk and help developers prioritise and remediate issues using natural language.
The approach means that rather than receiving raw scan output, developers get Claude’s interpretation of the results, including explanations of what a vulnerability means and guidance on how to address it.
Keeping security embedded in AI workflows
The integration reflects a broader shift in how security tooling is being delivered to developers. Rather than requiring teams to switch between separate security scanning tools and their coding environment, Signal brings the analysis into the workflow developers are already operating in.
For security teams, the value proposition centres on maintaining visibility and enforcement without introducing friction that slows development cycles.
The Black Duck Security Scanner is available as an MCP server through the Claude Directory. Organisations looking to deploy Signal within their Claude Desktop environment can contact Black Duck to get started.
