Bitdefender has introduced Scam Copilot, an advanced platform designed to protect consumers from the increasing risks of scams and fraud across multiple devices and communication channels. The Ai-powered technology adds a new layer of defence to Bitdefender’s suite of digital life protection products, addressing growing concerns over cybercrime.
According to a report from the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA), global scam-related losses reached over one trillion U.S. dollars in 2023. The study found that 78 per cent of nearly 50,000 people surveyed experienced at least one scam in a 12-month period. Bitdefender’s own 2024 Consumer Cybersecurity Assessment Report showed that text message scams were the most common security incident, impacting nearly half of the 7,000 respondents.
Addressing the Rise of Scam-Related Cybercrime
Scam Copilot was created in response to the surge in cybercrime linked to scams, driven in part by the growing use of Large Language Models (LLMs) in Ai. These technologies enable cybercriminals to craft highly convincing phishing messages at scale, often in multiple languages, making it harder for consumers to detect fraud on their own.
Ciprian Istrate, Senior Vice President of Operations for Bitdefender’s Consumer Solutions Group, explained the urgency of addressing this issue. “The rapid growth and sophistication of online scams have made it incredibly challenging for consumers to safeguard their digital lives. While the term ‘scam’ may sound innocuous, the consequences are far from trivial, often leading to identity theft and financial or data loss.”
Scam Copilot aims to provide a comprehensive solution. It consolidates Bitdefender’s scam detection and prevention technologies into one platform, which continuously monitors for, detects, and alerts users of potential scams while they browse the web, email, chat, and use messaging apps.

- Geo-Specific Scam Alerts: Scam Copilot informs users about newly emerging scams in their region. These alerts give users detailed information on how scams are delivered and what to watch out for.
- Protection for High-Risk Groups: The platform is designed to offer tailored protection for vulnerable groups, including seniors, children, and teens. It adapts to user behaviour, offering customised recommendations and simple steps for taking action.
- Educational Resources: Scam Copilot not only blocks scams but also provides contextual advice and learning resources to help consumers become more aware of scams and how to avoid them in the future.
