Australia Post is positioning itself as more than a delivery service for small businesses, launching a campaign that will turn select post offices into local showcases for small and micro businesses across the country.
The initiative, branded Big Boss Energy, targets the emerging eCommerce operators and side hustles that make up a significant portion of Australia Post’s customer base. Micro and small businesses account for 88 per cent of Australia Post’s customers.
The campaign comes as Australians spent $82.6 billion online last year, according to Australia Post’s 2026 eCommerce Report.
Post Offices As Small Business Hubs
Under the campaign, select post offices will be designated as “Side Hustle Capitals of Australia”, with in-store activations, content and community engagement designed to highlight the local businesses operating in those areas. A Peak-Me-Up Coffee Van will visit participating locations.
A physical market event, the Australia Post Making Moves Market, is planned for Melbourne on 20 September, giving small businesses and side hustlers a venue to showcase products and connect with new customers.
The campaign spans local area marketing, creator-led content, organic and paid social media, post office point-of-sale, email marketing and website content.
Australia Post’s Small Business Play
Australia Post Executive General Manager of Parcel, Post and eCommerce Services Gary Starr framed the campaign as an extension of the role Australia Post already plays for small businesses.
“Small businesses are the backbone of communities across Australia and make up the vast majority of our customer base. Every day, we help businesses of all sizes reach customers across the country, whether they’re making their first online sale or growing into an established eCommerce brand,” Starr explained.
“As Australia’s eCommerce sector continues to grow, we’re always looking at new ways to support businesses beyond delivery. Big Boss Energy is about celebrating the ambition of Australian businesses while giving them practical opportunities to build their profile, connect with customers and scale with confidence.”
Starr pointed to Australia Post’s network of post offices as a resource for small businesses beyond parcel logistics.
“We’re proud to support businesses at every stage of growth, and our Post Office network plays an important role in that journey by providing local connections and practical support in communities right across Australia,” he added.
The eCommerce Context
The campaign reflects the continued growth of online retail in Australia. The $82.6 billion spent online by Australians last year underlines the scale of the eCommerce market and the opportunity for small operators looking to reach customers beyond their local area.
Australia Post’s parcel network gives it a natural relationship with the small and micro businesses driving much of that growth, many of whom rely on the postal service to fulfil orders to customers nationally. The Big Boss Energy campaign is an attempt to deepen that relationship beyond the transactional, positioning Australia Post as a growth partner rather than just a logistics provider.
