Asus has revealed its first Wi-Fi 8 concept router, the ROG NeoCore, alongside results from what it claims is the first real-world Wi-Fi 8 throughput test. The announcement, made during CES 2026, signals Asus’ intent to lead the transition to the next major wireless standard as it prepares to release Wi-Fi 8 consumer routers later this year.

Real-World Performance Claims

Asus says its internal testing demonstrated Wi-Fi 8 delivering up to twice the mid-range throughput of Wi-Fi 7, alongside 2X wider IoT device coverage and up to 6X lower P99 latency. These gains are attributed to improved coordination between access points and client devices using smarter scheduling techniques.

“Wi-Fi 8 is not just about chasing peak speed,” said Tenlong Deng, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Wireless and Networking at Asus. “It’s about making every connection smarter and more reliable. It enables seamless collaboration between smart homes, Ai assistants and cloud services, delivering stable performance anytime, anywhere.”

The company did not disclose the exact testing environment or technical configuration used to achieve these results, but the comparisons were made against similar setups using Wi-Fi 7.

Stability And Coverage Key Themes

Asus framed Wi-Fi 8 as an answer to four key connectivity problems: signal degradation over distance, weak two-way communication for low-power devices, crowded network environments and bandwidth inefficiency.

Wi-Fi 8 introduces intelligent spectrum coordination, which is designed to reduce signal interference in dense areas such as apartments. The routers also incorporate dynamic scheduling and spectrum efficiency features to reduce latency and improve consistency, especially for Ai-driven device ecosystems.

“Whether for cloud streaming, real-time voice communication or multi-device team play, this new architecture and its intelligent scheduling are poised to deliver near-zero-latency responsiveness,” the company said in a statement.

First Look At ROG NeoCore

The ROG NeoCore is the first concept router from Asus to support Wi-Fi 8. It features an angular industrial design and continues the Republic of Gamers aesthetic, aimed squarely at performance enthusiasts. While final hardware specifications were not disclosed, it is expected to serve as the reference point for upcoming consumer models.

The router is built on Asus’ AiMesh platform, which allows multiple Asus routers to work together as a mesh network. It also includes the Asus Ai Network Engine, which aims to optimise throughput and latency by monitoring traffic and allocating bandwidth dynamically.

Consumer Availability Coming In 2026

While only a concept unit has been shown so far, Asus confirmed it will launch its first Wi-Fi 8 home routers and mesh systems sometime in 2026. Pricing and specifications are yet to be announced.
