Asana Launches AI Agents That Coordinate Work Across Teams

Surprisingly Useful AI Article Enhancements

Asana has launched AI Teammates, a set of AI agents designed to sit inside workflows and coordinate tasks across teams, with the company reporting that early users are completing work twice as fast.

The launch marks a shift from individual AI productivity tools toward agents that operate within shared projects, managing handoffs, tracking dependencies and maintaining context across multiple teams.

Moving Beyond Individual Productivity

Asana argues that most AI tools still operate at the level of individual productivity, while the real challenge lies in coordinating work that moves across teams, dependencies and approvals.

AI Teammates are designed to embed directly into projects rather than function as standalone tools. They update shared plans as priorities change, handle status checks, handoffs and follow-ups and retain institutional knowledge across the organisation over time.

The agents operate within existing permissions and security frameworks, a design choice Asana describes as “governed execution.”

21 Pre-Built Agents At Launch

Asana is introducing 21 pre-built AI Teammates across marketing, IT and operations at launch, alongside a no-code builder that allows organisations to create custom agents.

Among the pre-built options are a Campaign Brief Writer that turns transcripts, documents and threads into structured briefs; a Workflow Optimiser that identifies where work stalls and builds automations to address bottlenecks; a Compliance Specialist that checks work against security and regulatory standards in real time; and a Launch Planner that maps dependencies across teams and predicts how delays will affect delivery timelines.

The full list also includes agents for copywriting, competitive research, content localisation, brand auditing, pricing strategy, IT support, onboarding, vendor evaluation and sprint coaching.

Early Adoption Data

Asana ran a beta program with more than 200 organisations ahead of the launch, reporting several adoption signals.

The company found that 93 per cent of AI Teammates were granted full edit access by their teams, which Asana interprets as a sign of trust in the agents’ ability to coordinate real work. Teams also moved quickly toward applying agents across functions from IT to strategic planning.

According to Asana’s data, tasks managed by AI Teammates were 3.2x more likely to have clear ownership and 2.6x more likely to have defined deadlines compared to tasks without agent involvement.

Morningstar Cuts Weeks Of Analysis To Hours

Investment research firm Morningstar used AI Teammates to analyse large volumes of historical project data, completing work in hours that the company estimates would previously have taken weeks.

“A huge job that would have taken a human a monumental amount of time, the AI Teammate was able to just go through it in hours,” explained Alina Lamy, Senior Project Manager at Morningstar.

The company reported that the work also surfaced deeper insights from existing data, helping inform business decisions and changing how teams approach complex analysis.

Human-I-T Reduces Manual Review Time

Non-profit technology organisation Human-I-T applied AI Teammates to improve data accuracy across high-volume workflows.

Jean Favela, IT Manager at Human-I-T, described the impact on portfolio review processes.

“We went from two hours of manual portfolio review down to 30 minutes,” Favela noted.

“The real impact is quality. We eliminated the class of errors that was breaking our downstream reporting. Now I can assess every device in our organisation with confidence. That’s something that was simply impossible before – not difficult, impossible.”

Human-I-T has since expanded its use of AI Teammates into strategic and executive workflows, using them to support planning, task creation and follow-ups.

Availability

Asana AI Teammates are available now as an add-on to Starter, Advanced, Enterprise and Enterprise+ plans.
