APO Group Rebrands As Pan-African Communications Consultancy With Owned Distribution Network

Communications firm, APO Group, has unveiled a new brand and website built around the proposition “Communication, Built for Performance,” positioning itself as a pan-African consultancy that combines strategic advisory with ownership of the distribution network that carries its clients’ messaging.

The rebrand reflects the company’s operating model, which brings counsel, execution and media distribution under one roof rather than requiring organisations to coordinate multiple agencies across different African markets.

Consolidating fragmented markets

Historically, organisations communicating across Africa have managed public relations and communications on a market-by-market basis, often working with separate agencies and suppliers in each country. APO Group argues this approach adds cost and makes consistent messaging and measurement across markets difficult to achieve.

CEO of APO Group, Bas Wijne, outlined the rationale behind the rebrand.

“A company operating across 10 African markets has historically had to manage 10 separate agency relationships. That fragmentation persisted because no single consultancy had the reach to take responsibility across the continent,” Wijne explained.

“APO Group can. We operate across all 54 African markets, and because we own the distribution, our role does not end with the recommendation. We can take a communications strategy through to publication and see how it performs in the markets that matter.”

Owned distribution through Africa Newsroom

Central to the model is Africa Newsroom, APO Group’s owned newswire. The platform guarantees placement on more than 250 Africa-focused news websites and reaches more than 450,000 journalists, analysts, investors and policymakers.

Content placed through the network sits on indexed news platforms, remaining searchable after a campaign ends. The company notes that this content increasingly serves as source material for search engines and AI systems when answering queries about companies or markets.

Local execution across 54 markets

APO Group maintains staff on the ground in 13 African markets with partners covering all 54 countries. The aim is to deliver a communications strategy to a consistent standard across the continent without clients needing to coordinate separate agencies in each market.

Vice President: Brand & Creative at APO Group, Libby Allen, pointed to the company’s long-standing presence in the region.

“APO Group has been part of Africa’s media landscape since 2007, not a supplier looking in from outside. The consultancy was built on that foundation. It’s what gives us the local understanding to advise on reputation in markets that are too often assumed rather than understood,” Allen remarked.

Operating environment

The company frames the rebrand against a communications environment shaped by AI, rising geopolitical and reputational risks, greater scrutiny of communications spending and the need for faster response times. Across Africa, these pressures are compounded by rapid growth and evolving regulatory and business environments.

APO Group argues this demands communications that are strategically focused, locally relevant and able to demonstrate measurable impact across markets.

Company background

Founded in 2007 by Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard, APO Group works with more than 300 clients across finance, technology, healthcare, logistics and the public sector. Its client roster includes the African Development Bank Group, Africa CDC, Afreximbank, NFL, Nestle, Emirates, Canon, Western Union and GITEX Global.

The company is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The new website is live at APO-opa.com, with the refreshed brand identity rolling out across social media channels and Africa Newsroom.
