Ant International has secured a Payment Institution (PI) licence from the Central Bank of Brazil, expanding its ability to offer local and cross-border payment services in the country.

The licence strengthens the company’s position to provide payment and account services to enterprises, platforms and small-to-medium enterprises operating within Brazil’s digital economy.

General Manager of Ant International Brazil, Rodrigo Reif, commented that the licence will deepen the company’s involvement in the local payments ecosystem.

“With the Central Bank’s support, we are ready to step up more reliable and comprehensive global payment and account services to enterprises, platforms and SMEs in the country’s dynamic digital economy, in ever deeper collaboration with its payments ecosystem and financial services industry,” Reif explained.

Building On Existing Operations

The PI licence builds on services Ant International already offers in Brazil through its merchant payment and digitalisation platform, Antom, which enables merchants to accept PIX, credit cards and a range of alternative payment methods.

Ant International provides cross-border payments and account services, embedded credit and treasury services, and other financial AI and blockchain solutions to clients across Asia, Europe and the Americas.

The company processes over 20 million transactions daily, connecting two billion consumer accounts to 150 million merchants worldwide through its digital payment ecosystem.

Broader Ambitions

Ant International positions itself as a global digital payment, digitisation and financial AI solutions provider. Its platform supports financial institutions and merchants with payment and financial services solutions.

The PI licence is expected to strengthen the company’s local and cross-border payment capabilities in the Brazilian market, where digital payments have grown rapidly in recent years, driven in part by the widespread adoption of the PIX instant payment system.
